Magellan remote users,
As we begin the new year for 2026, we are finally able to offer VPN access and remote observing connections for more operating systems than just MacOS. Once connected to our VPN, LCO has adopted NoMachine as the preferred screen sharing tool and this allows our community to access from MacOS, Windows, Linux and even via an https connection from an up to date Chrome browser.
Overall Remote Observing Guidelines are avaialble and the linked pages therein provide detailed VPN instructions as well as instructions and links for downloading, installing and connecting via NoMachine.
While we understand that change is sometimes uncomfortable and challenging, we do believe that these modifications to our remote observing protocols are straightforward to adopt and offer our community the flexibility they have been requesting while maintaining robust security measures.
