Release 20210319

Dear LCO community,

The La Serena/Coquimbo region has entered a lockdown to help slow the rising Covid-19 cases in the area. For this reason, we are extending the closure of the Clay telescope through April 19, 2021. We will continue night time operations of the Baade telescope during this period.

Based on recommendations from the Magellan Scientific Advisory Committee, we will resume operations on the Clay telescope and close the Baade telescope beginning on April 20, 2021, assuming Covid-19 cases remain high and we are able to operate only one telescope each night. We will provide an update on the situation prior to this date.

Thank you as always for your understanding.

Best,

John Mulchaey, Polo Infante, and David Osip
