LCO successfully participates in the Festival Puerto de Ideas Antofagasta 2025

The observatory presented the stand “Astronomy with all the senses”, an innovative educational proposal that brought science closer to the public through touch and interactive experience.

The Las Campanas Observatory was once again part of the Science Walk, the central activity of the Antofagasta 2025 Port of Ideas Festival, presented by Escondida | BHP. In this twelfth edition, the event brought together more than 20 thousand attendees and offered more than 120 free activities, consolidating itself as one of the most relevant scientific meetings in the country.

The LCO stand, called “Astronomy with all the senses”, stood out for its innovative approach, allowing visitors to learn about the universe through touch and interaction. Among the topics covered were the scales of size and distance between planets, the Moon-Earth relationship, stellar evolution, constellations and more, awakening the amazement of children, young people and adults. This material is part of the inclusive suitcase with the same name, brought to Chile by GMTO.

During the four days of the festival, the Las Campanas Observatory space caused great interest, as did other stands that were part of the Science Fair, which brought together dozens of institutions at Site Zero in Puerto Antofagasta. With more than 40 stands, the Science Walk brought research closer to the community through playful and didactic activities.
