The event brought together nearly 120 ambassadors, chargés d’affaires, representatives of multilateral organizations, and officials from Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation and dialogue between Chile and the international community accredited in the country.
Dr. Blanc attended on behalf of the Carnegie Institution for Science, the international organization to which Las Campanas Observatory belongs and which has been conducting astronomical research in Chile for more than five decades. Representatives from a wide range of international organizations accredited in Chile also participated in the ceremony, including the United Nations, UNESCO, FAO, the World Bank, ESO, AURA, AUI, the National Astronomical Observatory of China (NAOC), and the TAO Project.
During his remarks, President José Antonio Kast highlighted that the Government’s foreign policy is based on three pillars: security, economic development and innovation, and building trust with the international community. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation among nations to address shared challenges and promote development.
The ceremony also included remarks by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See, Archbishop Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal, and reaffirmed Chile’s commitment to strengthening international relations and fostering collaboration with the international organizations present in the country.
