Las Campanas Observatory Honors Staff Milestones During Anniversary Ceremony

As part of the celebration of its 55th anniversary, Las Campanas Observatory held a recognition ceremony honoring staff members who this year reached between 10 and 35 years of service with the institution. The event brought together members of the observatory community to express gratitude for the commitment, dedication, and contributions of those who have played a significant role in the organization’s development over the decades.

The ceremony took place on June 2 and was led by Las Campanas Observatory Director Dr. Guillermo Blanc, who emphasized that every scientific achievement, every successful observing night, and every institutional milestone is the result of the collective efforts of individuals who have devoted years of hard work, professionalism, and dedication to the observatory.

During the event, commemorative service pins were presented to staff members celebrating 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service, along with special recognitions for those who reached 30 and 35 years with the institution. The honorees represent a wide range of technical, operational, administrative, and support roles, reflecting the diversity of work required to sustain the daily operations of one of the world’s leading astronomical observatories.

Beyond the presentation of awards, the ceremony highlighted the people whose work makes scientific research at Las Campanas possible. Cutting-edge astronomical research depends on advanced technology and specialized infrastructure, but it also relies on dedicated teams who, day after day, ensure the operation of telescopes, the maintenance of facilities, the management of administrative processes, and the support of every area of the observatory.

Through this recognition, Carnegie Science and Las Campanas Observatory reaffirm their gratitude to those who have dedicated an important part of their professional lives to the institution, contributing in a meaningful way to its scientific mission and to the legacy it has built over more than half a century.
