How to do rotator guiding

Rotator guiding is enabled by setting hartpar.eloadit to yes.
The active optics software will then attempt to keep the shack hartmann star at the same place in its aperture as it was during the last turbo cycle.  It does this by issuing "dr" commands to change the rotator offset angle. Therefore, you must be using the rotator servo as well (uses 1).

  • For imacs, you should probably disable rotator guiding until the observer aligns the mask, and then type "turbo" and enable the rotator guiding.
  • For best results, choose the two guide stars so that the angle P1-centerOfField-P2 is as big as possible.
