MIKE Specs

Telescope:

    • Focal ratio: f/11

Scale:

  • Effective focal ratio:
    • Blue Camera - f/3.9
    • Red Camera - f/3.6
  • At Detector:

    • Blue Camera - 8.2 pixels/arcsec (0.12 arcsec/pixel)
    • Red Camera - 7.5 pixels/arcsec (0.13 arcsec/pixel)

Slit Lengths:

    • 5 arcsec for complete wavelength coverage (all echelle orders)
    • Note that the instrument is fixed on the Nasmyth platform and therefore the slit remains at a fixed angle of 30 degrees.

  • Blue Camera - Lincoln Labs CCD: 2048x4096 (15 µm pixels)
  • Red Camera - SITe ST-002A CCD: 2048x4096 (15 µm pixels); Q.E. graph.gif

Readout Noise:

    • Blue Camera - ~2 electrons/pixel
    • Red Camera - ~3.5 electrons/pixel

Wavelength Range:

    • Blue Camera: 3200-5000 Å
    • Red Camera: 4900-10000 Å
